About Light In Africa
Light In Africa was established in 2000 by Mama Lynn Elliott from the UK, at first Mama Lynn operated under the name of Sonu Children’s Home which was situated 6000 feet up the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. After two years of living in a remote mountain village with no vehicle, no running water, electric on the occasional day and impassable, horrendous mountain paths in the rainy season Mama Lynn, her staff team and 37 children left their home on the mountain to a new home on the plains at the bottom of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Light In Africa currently cares for hundreds of children either full time or with in a child’s own home environment supporting them with education support, medical support and food support. Since 2000 it is estimated that over 25,000 people have been helped in some way by the team of Light in Africa.
The uniqueness and remarkable thing about Mama Lynn and Light In Africa is that they do not ask for funding for anything only a belief that their God will provide for their every day needs.
Nations Together supports Mama Lynn and Light In Africa because every bit of project money raised goes to a beneficial purpose. Projects to be funded are prioritised by the staff team in Africa and then discussed with volunteers who have raised the project money, the final decision is with volunteers. Projects are identified and given to those who genuinely need support.
