Nations Together Africa

About Us

Nations Together is a Non Profit Organisation offering volunteer opportunities to a small corner of the world where any help given will be gratefully received with heartfelt thanks.

We offer the chance for people of all nations, abilities, religions and ages to volunteer and experience the wonders of Tanzania, East Africa.

Nations Together operates for two reasons the first being to support the valuable and long established work of Light In Africa, based in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. Light In Africa’s founder Mama Lynn Elliottfrom the UK set up the organisation to offer a safe haven for children with HIV /Aids.

After seven years of operating Light in Africa offers not only a full time home and education to many orphaned, abandoned and neglected children but over the years has helped an estimated 25,000 Chagga, Pari and Massai tribal people in the region with house builds, food support, medical care and support, educational support and life sustaining programs.

The second being to set up an organisation that takes the minimum amount of administration costs possible to enable as much project money raised to go to the people it was raised for and to allow volunteers to keep control of their money ensuring to donars that money given is spent exactly where it should be.

Nations Together volunteers may well learn the valuable lesson of community importance as you watch village elders come together in ancient tribes; you may well feed the hungry; clothe the naked; build homes for the homeless; offer pain relief to the suffering; give dignity to those who are ignored and hope to the hopeless. You may experience humility like you’ve never felt before and feel the rich rewards of helping the neediest on our planet.

With years of experience behind us Nations Together understands the many needs of communities and individuals and we hope that together we can help make life sustaining changes to peoples lives through education, seminars, life skills, literacy skills, medical help, home building, income generating projects to empower people lives and confidence that every one of us are achievers if we wish to be.

Our Aims

Nations Together aims to provide resources for Mama Lynn and the team at Light In Africa; this may be in the form of man power for building projects, financial support for medical or social problems, and volunteer support with distributing food parcels or delivering seminars. Wherever the need of Light In Africa we aim to help wherever possible.

Nations Together also works with members of local, tribal village communities who bring identified needs of the village, individuals or families to our attention. These people may be living in situations of one or more of the following; extreme poverty, no or limited education, depression, ill health, poor housing and living standards, alcoholism, prostitution, hunger, disability, abandonment or neglect.

What Nations Together does is give volunteers the chance to help change the circumstances of these families and communities if the families are willing to help their selves and if they have asked for support.

All projects and family circumstances are thoroughly assessed prior to projects starting to ensure that the need for help is genuine.

Projects will vary and will depend on funds raised; building a house for a widow and her children is beneficial to the mother and her children and extremely rewarding for volunteers. As you are a part of the purchasing of building materials, part of physically building the structure, and if funds are available purchasing basic furniture and cooking utensils, you will spend time with the family getting to know them building relationships and learning from each others life experiences. Alongside LIA’s social work and medical team you may help set in place realistic reachable goals for the family to enrich their lives through life sustaining, income generating projects.

For larger groups house builds for families or community projects such as small children’s homes for Light In Africa in their community Tudor village, or identified needs in a village such as a small dispensary, a library, an extra classroom are rewarding tasks for all.

For all volunteers the opportunity is there to help in the children’s homes of Light In Africa helping with the every day tasks of the homes such as cooking traditional African dishes, washing and folding the daily clothes, playing with the children, teaching them new tasks.

For school groups projects such as building sand pits, swings, jungle gyms, painting projects, building rabbit hutches, water harvesting projects, gardening projects, plan a dance or mime event working alongside and in partnership with the children of Tanzania, this is a wondrous event to see; there are no communication barriers between children, as they say we all smile in the same language.

Not only does Nations Together aim to offer the opportunity for very fulfilling volunteer placements but also aims to give you the chance to experience the wonders that Tanzania has to offer. An amazing country of breathtaking scenery, spectacular animals and ancient tribes. You can choose to experience feelings and emotions through climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru, going on safari to the Serengeti, Ngorogoro Crater or Lake Manyara, visiting Marangu Water Falls, or a Snake Park, a Massai village, or travel to the coast to the Indian Ocean and the Island of Zanzibar.

There is much to discover in this amazing land.
